Tribble & Ayala CPAs

About Us

Our firm traces its roots back to 1977, when Vaughn Tribble moved up to Murphys and purchased three separate accounting practices in Angels Camp and Arnold, previously owned and operated by Art Haddock, Don McCord and Bob Morehouse. Vaughn kept offices open in Angels Camp and Arnold to serve his predecessors' clients as well as take on new clients. Over the years, Vaughn's practice grew to the point that he added two additional CPAs and had as many as six accounting professionals and three administrative support personnel. In 2002, Vaughn sold the majority of his practice to Dan Ayala, who has been with the firm since 1987, and Doug Tribble, Vaughn's son, who has been with the firm since 1992. Today, Vaughn continues to work with the firm in semi-retirement, leaving Dan and Doug to take on new clients and establish new business relationships.

Our CPAs

Vaughn Tribble

Vaughn was raised in Turlock, CA and graduated from Turlock High in 1961. After serving in the Army in Germany during the Cold War, Vaughn attended college at Modesto Junior College and then at Stanislaus State in Turlock, CA. Vaughn graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1969 and started work as a staff accountant at Nattinger, Lowry & Co. in Modesto, CA. While working there, Vaughn studied for and passed his CPA exams. Vaughn became familiar with Calaveras County through various audits and reviews that he performed on his employer's behalf. His wife, Susan, also had family roots in Calaveras County dating as far back as the late 1800s. Eventually, Vaughn purchased a cabin in Camp Connell, where his family spent many weekends and vacations. A few years later, after realizing that Modesto was becoming too large of a city for his tastes and seeing that there were business opportunities and accounting practices for sale in the foothills, Vaughn and his family made their move to Calaveras County. Throughout the years, Vaughn has actively served in his community of residence, as President of the Modesto Junior College Alumni Association, member of the Modesto as well as Angels-Murphys Lions Clubs, President of the Angels-Murphys Rotary Club, and member of the Calaveras County Fair Board. Currently, Vaughn is a Regional Advisory Board Member for U.S. Bank and is active with Santa’s Express in Calaveras County.

Dan Ayala

After graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1977 with a Business-Accounting degree, Dan moved to Turlock, CA, to work in the construction industry. In late 1978, a relative suggested he use his college degree and apply for an accounting job. In August 1978, he went to work in a small public accounting firm in Turlock and began studying for the Certified Public Accountant exam. In 1982, he received his CPA license and decided to relocate back down to the San Bernardino area where he grew up. After holding positions in both private and public accounting, he decided the area had become overgrown and in 1986 moved back to Turlock. Seeking to stay in a rural environment he made the leap to Angels Camp going to work for Vaughn Tribble in 1987. While the early years of his career included auditing and dealing with governmental entities, the majority of his 30+ years of experience has been spent on income tax preparation and consulting. He works with the majority of our firm’s non-profit organization and homeowner association clients.

Douglas Tribble

Doug graduated from Bret Harte High School in 1985 as valedictorian, and afterwards attended UC Davis, graduating with a bachelor's degree in anthropology in 1989. After working in the archaeology field for a year and a half, Doug decided to move into the accounting field after filling in one tax season at his dad's office. Doug went back to school at CSUS Stanislaus, taking enough accounting and business classes to sit for the CPA exam, which he took and passed in November of 1992. In December of that year, Doug went back to work at Vaughn's office and gained enough experience to receive his CPA license in September of 1995. Doug's experience includes tax preparation and planning, financial statement compilations and QuickBooks consulting. Over the years, Doug has been involved with the Arnold Lions Club, Calaveras/Tuolumne Homebuyer Program and Columbia Junior College Accounting Advisory Committee. He currently serves as treasurer of the White Pines Park Committee and is on the board of directors of Mind Matters Clinic. Doug lives just outside of Murphys with his wife, daughter and son and enjoys his rural surroundings.
